Walk-in coolers and freezers

Walk-in cooler and freezer installation in Ontario

IB Technical designs and installs walk-in coolers and walk-in freezers for restaurants, grocers, bakeries, distributors and food producers. We size the room and the refrigeration to your product and your volume, handle the permit paperwork, and commission the system so it holds temperature from day one.

What does a walk-in cooler or freezer involve?

A walk-in cooler holds product at about 1–4°C (34–40°F) and a walk-in freezer at about −18°C (0°F) or colder. Both are built from insulated metal panels with a matched refrigeration system. Cost depends on room size, panel thickness, floor type, the refrigeration system and site conditions, so we price from a scope rather than a catalog.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a walk-in cooler or freezer cost in Ontario?

It depends on the size of the room, panel thickness, flooring, the refrigeration system, electrical work and whether permits are needed. We price every job from a written scope, so send us the room size and what you store and we will come back with a clear quote.

How long does a walk-in cooler installation take?

Once the design is approved and materials are on site, installing a standard walk-in is usually a matter of days rather than weeks. Permits and equipment lead times set the overall schedule, and we give you a timeline with the quote.

What temperature should a walk-in cooler and freezer hold?

Coolers typically hold 1–4°C (34–40°F) and freezers about −18°C (0°F) or colder. Ontario public health inspectors expect cold-held food at 4°C or below, so the system is sized to hold that with margin.

Do I need a permit to install a walk-in cooler?

Depending on size and scope, a walk-in or cold room build can require building, electrical and mechanical permits. We prepare the drawings and handle the permit submission as part of the project.

Can you build a walk-in inside an existing building or restaurant?

Yes. We build freestanding and in-building walk-ins, including combination cooler and freezer rooms with a shared wall, and plan around your operating hours where we can.
